OVERVIEW:
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave. There is no one cause of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Research suggests that autism develops from a combination of genetic and nongenetic, or environmental influences. There may also be co-occurring conditions that can often come with autism spectrum disorder, they include, but are not limited to, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, clinical depression, down syndrome, eating disorders, gastrointestinal symptoms, developmental delays, language display, speech disorder, motor difficulties, OCD, seizures or epilepsy, sleep problems, or Tourette’s syndrome.

SYMPTOMS:
Symptoms vary significantly, to name a few common ones; an individual can repeatedly perform the same gesture or movements; such as rocking, spinning or hand flapping, performing acts of self-harm; such as biting or head banging, developing specific routines or rituals and becoming disturbed at the slightest change, has problems with coordination or has different movement patterns, being fascinated by specific details of an object, lack of engagement in make-believe play. With the proper treatments, relaxing the nervous system has a positive effect on influencing behaviors.
